Abstract
977,546. Crucibles. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd; Jan. 10, 1963, No. 1216/63. Addition to 871,157. Heading F4B. The crucible described in the parent Specification is modified by forming it from tapered tubes 1 arranged vertically and having their narrowed ends curved inwards and joined to a bottom header compartment 2 to form an inverted domed structure. The upper ends of the tubes 1 are connected to an annular header compartment 3. In another embodiment. Fig. 2 (not shown), the structure in Fig. 1 is inverted and provided with a re-entrant depression at its apex. In yet another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) a number of parallel tubes are arranged vertically, the tubes having their upper ends closed and being of different lengths so that the space bounded by their closed ends forms a crucible. As described in the parent Specification, the tubes are good conductors of heat and electricity, they are arranged sufficiently close together to prevent the escape of molten material, and they have cooling fluid circulated through them.
