971,730. Knitting machines. SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. Aug. 20, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 31920/62. Heading D1C. A yarn cutter 20, 21, 25 in a circular knitting machine comprises a pair of blades one of which is arranged to reciprocate. To bring the cutter 20, 21 and 25 into the operating position, the control drum 10 is turned (Fig. 1) so that cam 11 raises a rack 12 which turns a pinion 13 which acting through a linkage 14,15,16<SP>1</SP> and 16 turns a cam ring 17 in the direction of an arrow P. A cam 17<SP>1</SP> on the upper face of the ring 17 disengages teeth 18<SP>1</SP> on the ring 18 and the latter drops lowering the cutter which is attached thereto by means of a bolt 28. The yarn cutter comprises a reciprocating notched blade 20 in a stationary notched blade 21 of U-shaped cross-section. The blade 20 has an extension 24 which is attached to a resilient diaphragm 27 (Fig. 2) acting as a spring and an armature 26 which is caused to reciprocate vertically by a solenoid 22 fed with an A.C. current. The solenoid is surrounded by a soft iron part 23 and a casing 25 which can slide up and down in a guide 30. In the modifications (not shown) the blade 20 may be reciprocated by means of a zig-zag radial cam or by a rotary crank. The blade may be in the form of a pair of shears.
