968,630. Washers for rock bolts. ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS GOLDENBERG & CIE. May 14, 1962 [May 23, 1961], No. 18478/62. Heading F2H. A layer C of granular material such as sand bound with bitumen, rubber composition or latex or a synthetic resinous composition is located between a plate (on which the layer C may be premoulded, Fig. 3, not shown) and the roof or wall 2 of a mine in which a rock bolt 7 is anchored. The layer C moulds itself to the roof or wall when a nut 8 is tightened on the bolt 7. A preformed hole through the layer may be tapered, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), or like that 9b in the layer C on the plate P 2 of Fig. 5, it may end in an enlarged frusto-conical recess 11. The plate P 5 , Fig. 8, may be inset at the middle to provide a bearing 18 for a cup 19 with a slot 20 surmounted by a dished washer 21 with the hole 9e a tapered slot to accommodate an angular setting of the bolt 7 where necessary. In similar forms, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the plate P is inset conically to accommodate angular setting, a plain thick washer being used under the nut 8 or a hemispherical washer is used in a complementary inset of a plate which has a tapered slot 9 in the layer C like that in Fig. 8.
