Abstract

965,366. Cable spacers. ENFIELD ROLLING MILLS Ltd. July 19, 1963 [July 24, 1962; Jan. 7, 1963], Nos. 28447/62 and 725/63. Heading H2C. A cable spacer has interfitting tapered plug and socket portions which connect clamps to a link member and which are maintained in connection by elastomeric material, to allow flexible movement of the clamps on the link member. As shown in Fig. 1, two metal clamp members 1, 2 each having tapered cavities 10, are joined to a metal link member 3 of rectangular crosssection whose ends 11 which form the plug are tapered to engage with the cavities, the space between the plug and cavity portions being filled with elastomeric material such as natural or butyl rubber. Each clamp consists of two parts 4 and 5 which are bolted together to enclose a cable in a channel 7. An alternative embodiment is described in which the end faces of the plug portions are rounded so that undue shear stress on the elastomeric filler is avoided (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). The link member may be of X or Y formation according as to how many cables are to be spaced apart. A conductive material may be included in the elastomeric filler to obviate potential differences between the spaced cables.
