Abstract

964,996. Direction finding. AEROJETGENERAL CORPORATION. Sept. 26, 1961, No. 34535/61. Heading H4D. An optical scanning system for locating the position of an object O emitting radiant energy, comprises a deflector 14a obliquely mounted with respect to and rotatable about, an axis of rotation 14, wherein the object is in the field of view of the deflector during only part of each rotation thereof, a detector 20 continuously receiving the radiant energy from the said deflector and developing corresponding electrical signals giving a visible indication on exhibiting means 38 rotating in synchronism with the deflector, whereby the angular position of the indication on the exhibiting means, indicates the position of the object in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The exhibiting means may comprise a light 23 actuated in response to the electrical signals from the detector 20, shining through an aperture 42, Fig. 6 (not shown), in a rotating disc 38. A reticule 16, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be interposed between the deflector mirror 14a and detector 20, whereby the radiation is detected by the detector 20 in a rapid series of short pulses.
