Abstract

964,453. Apparatus for removing solids from liquids. BRAITHWAITE EQUIPMENT Ltd. March 28, 1963 [March 29, 1962], No. 12103/62. Heading B1D. Filtering apparatus includes a filter casing 18 having an outlet 63 for filtered liquid, an opening which is normally covered by lid 21 having an inlet 42, a flexible tubular filter element 44, one end of which is secured to casing 18 through a short flexible tube 46 and clip 47 and which extends into the casing to form a pervious filtering wall between inlet and outlet, and a withdrawal member 53 attached to the end of the filter element 44 remote from lid 21 and extending towards lid 21 such that when the latter is removed, the withdrawal member enables contaminants to be taken from filter element 44. The withdrawal member may be a rigid rod attached to the filter element by means of two perforated metal plates 51, 52 and clamping nut 56. Additionally there may be provided a tapered withdrawable insert 57, which when removed, permits solids caught on the filter element to move more freely and hence facilitate their removal. Filter element 44 may be surrounded by a perforated rigid support 49.
