963,551. Rear projection apparatus. MINISTER OF AVIATION. Feb. 26, 1963 [March 2, 1962], No. 8135/62. Heading G2J. In optical rear projection apparatus as in Specification 926,448 for use in aircraft, for example, under variable ambient light conditions, the brightness of the projected image is controlled by a selective light filter 18 comprising a series metal wire gauze pieces of different mesh 23, 24, 25, carried on a sector 22 pivoted at 21 and guided between the flanges of wheel 30. "Clicker" mechanism 28 holds the sector at any of five positions with respect to the optical axis 26, position 1 as shown, corresponding to unobstructed light while position 5 corresponds to complete light cut-off by extension 27, as in broken lines. Filters 23, 24, 25 may alternatively be of apertured plates or of metal foil with etched holes. Filter 18 is placed between lamp 15 and heat filter 16 in contact with lens 17 of condenser 14;while compound objective 12 projects an image from transparency 13 on to translucent screen 11 having a Fresnel lens.
