Abstract

955,847. Transformers. ALMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. March 21, 1961 [March 24, 1960], No. 10213/61. Heading H1T. [Also in Divisions G1 and H2] Means for indicating back-fire in a mercury arc converter comprise an indicating device 5 and a transformer 1 having a common primary winding 2 magnetically linked with series opposed secondary windings 3, 4 one of the links being much more readily saturable than the other. In the arrangement shown each magnetic circuit includes an iron core having similar geometrical dimensions one core however comprising magnetic orientated laminations. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown) the secondary windings are linked with the primary winding through an iron core and by air induction respectively, the iron core incorporating a bias winding to control the degree of saturation. Cores having differing geometrical dimensions are also disclosed. The primary winding 2 (Fig. 1) is connected in series with the back-firing element and the diodes 6, 7 allow the indicating device 5 to be actuated only by the first reversal of current, the return to normal firing being undetected.
