Abstract

954,434. Reciprocating pumps. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. July 24, 1961 [Aug: 12, 1960], No. 27948/60. Heading F1A. The cylindrical internal surface of a pump body 5 is eccentric with respect to the rotor 6 and each pump piston 17 has a stem 16 in contact with the internal surface of the pump body 5. An arcuate inlet port 9 and an arcuate outlet port 10 are provided in the body 5 at one end of the rotor and the outer ends of the cylinders 15 have ports communicating with the ports 9 and 10. The mass of the pistons is such that above a pre-determined speed, the stems 16 are held in contact with the body 5. Preferably, outlet and inlet ports are provided on either side of the rotor. In an alternative form, the piston comprises a light outer portion including the stem 16 and a relatively heavy inner portion with a spring interposed between both portions.
