Abstract

954,305. Moulding pulp. DIAMOND NATIONAL CORPORATION. Feb. 14, 1961 [March 30, 1960; April 22, 1960], No. 5506/61. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B8] Moulded pulp articles are made with a large portion of lesser thickness by moulding on a foraminous die having portions at least partially blocked out. An egg carton (Fig. 1) is moulded on a die made from a wire screen 1 with areas blocked out by, for example, polyethylene dots 2. The amount of pulp 9 deposited is less in the blocked areas than in the unblocked areas of the die where normal drainage takes place. A subsequent hot press operation yields the finished product (Fig. 1). A number of ways of blocking out the die are given.
