Abstract
953,431. Photographic processes. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. July 8, 1960 [July 11, 1959], No. 23939/60. Heading G2C. A light-sensitive layer is subjected to a "mirror exposure", treated with an aqueous germ introduction agent including a water-soluble mercury of silver compound to form an at least partly external metal germ image by reaction with the light-acted product in the layer, and this germ image is subjected to purely physical development by means of a non-stabilized intensifier. The "mirror exposure" is defined in tile Specification as a relationship between exposure energy and germ introduction bath concentration to result in a metal germ image of a specified electrical resistance. The noble metal images may be given electrical, mechanical, chemical, thermal or other after-treatment especially to reduce their electrical resistance when the process is directed to the production of printed wiring or circuits. Other applications are for making resistances, screens, grids, patterns, station name dials and such like. The images may be coated as with gold, platinum, palladium, iridium or rhodium for instance to resist sparks, wear or atmospheric attack. Details are provided in twenty examples, thus in Example I a surface seponified cellulose triacetate foil is impregnated with aqueous O-methoxy-benzenediazosulphonic acid sodium salt and cadmium lactate, dried exposed at 30 cms, distance from a 125 watt mercury vapour lamp behind a line negative for 5 to 180 seconds, treated in aqueous mercurous nitrate together with nitric acid to make a mercury germ image and then with a solution comprising metal, citric acid and silver nitrate as physical developer. Tables show resistance values of the resulting developed images using solutions of various concentrations before and after treatments as indicated above. Numerous further supports, sensitisers, solutions, developers and treatments are quoted in the rest of the examples and general description. Transfer of the final images to further supports may be made. Specification 953,432 is referred to.
