Abstract

942,278. Drawing textile slivers. TOYO BOSEKI KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Aug. 17, 1961 [Aug. 18, 1960], No. 29715/61. Headings D1F and D1N. Sliver from a drawing frame is supplied to a second drawing frame as a plurality of sliver ends by coiling the sliver into a succession of containers and intermittently moving the containers between the first and second drawing frames, severing the sliver between two filled containers and feeding the sliver from the first of the two containers into the second drawing frame. The containers are preferably mounted on a circular turntable but may also be arranged in a triangular or polygonal pattern, or an arrangement may be adopted in which containers are forced into an annular compartment from a position external to the annulus. Where a circular turntable is used, the number of containers is equivalent to the number of slivers supplied to the second drawing frame with the addition of at least one empty container, one filled container and a container located beneath the coiler head of the first drawing frame. The sliver will extend continuously from the container 12 beneath the coiler head 11 to the container 12a previously filled. As one container, say 12g, is emptied the turntable 13 is indexed round to the extent of one container position and, in consequence, the container 12 from beneath the coiler head moves to the reserve position hitherto occupied by container 12a and now in position to supply sliver which is fed to the drawing rollers B<1> in two steps. In the first step, arm 42 swings upwardly to raise the bight of sliver extending between containers 12, 12a and hold the sliver between a hook member at the end of the arm 42 and a fixed flexible member 47. In the second step, an arm 52, Fig. 8, is moved laterally until rollers 55, 59 lie on either side of the sliver extending from the container 12a, an electromagnet 60 is energized to bring the rollers 55, 59 into gripping relationship with the sliver, and the rollers are then swung towards the drawing rollers B<1> until the roller 55 contacts a driven roller 65 from which drive is transmitted to rollers 55, 59 so that the sliver which is severed during the swing of the rollers is fed into the drawing rollers B<1>. Slivers are guided from the containers to the drawing rollers by a curved member 33, Fig. 2, and a guide 30 in the form of a screw that may be continuously rotated, or intermittently turned in synchronism with the indexing of the turntable. Each container 12 is provided with a longitudinal groove 20 that may be set at an angle of about 18 degrees to the axis of the container and a recess 21, the groove and recess serving to guide the sliver extending between adjacent containers.
