Abstract

929,287. Electric selective signalling systems. SOLARTRON ELECTRONIC GROUP Ltd. Feb. 27, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 2524/60. Class 40 (1). A high-speed printer operated from incoming digital information comprises a series of continuously rotating type-wheels 10, 11, 12, 13, a pulse generator 29-40, and electrically operated print hammers operated by a circuit comprising a pulse counter 100 adjustable from a datum setting so that when an information code is received to be printed the angular deviation of the equivalent character on the type-wheel is compensated for. The pulse generator comprises a series of ferro-magnetic blades 29 on a wheel 28 passing a magnetized core. There is one blade for each character and a further generator 35-40 makes a counter resetting or zeroing pulse in a position on the type-wheel carrying no characters. This pulse enters the counter 100 by terminal 107, Fig. 6, and character position pulses from winding 34 enter the four stage binary counters 101, 103, 104, 105 of counter 100 by terminal 47, so that at any instant the count is representative of the position of the type-wheels. When an information code is received it is converted into a binary form (see Fig. 4, not shown) and entered in a store, one store for each wheel, and comprises bi-stables which are set to counts indicating the characters to be printed. These counts are modified by the appropriate count in the counter 100 and cause the buffer store to count down from its modified count to zero. When this state is reached and all bi-stables store zero, further counting down is prevented and printing occurs by means of the hammer electromagnet 15. The apparatus is capable of printing more than 10 lines per second.
