Concrete beams and columns are cast in shuttering comprising shuttering members sliding on one another and adapted to be held in a U-clamp, the free ends of the posts of which are secured to flanges on the shuttering members, the assembly being adapted to be taken to the casting place. In Fig. 1, the lower flanges 12 of two Z-section shuttering members 10 overlap and extension members 22 are slidable inside the members 10. The posts 46, Fig. 2, of the U-clamps embrace the shuttering members and extensions 52 of the clamp posts pass through slots 18 in the flanges 16 of the members 10 and engage and are bolted to flanges 24 of members 22. A number of members 10, 22 overlap and are slidably adjustable and are bolted together by means of the slots 18, 25 in their flanges. In Fig. 4a (not shown), overlapping channel members are shown. Columns are cast in shuttering comprising two interfitting channels 30, 36, Fig. 5a, held in correct precision by distance pieces 80 on bolts through the flanges of the channels. The outer channel may be two Z-section members. Alternatively, the shuttering may be a channel or two Z-sections with extensions 22 as in Fig. 1 with distance pieces 80, the cavity in which is closed by a plate of shallow dish form across the flanges 24.
