926,957. Buttons; sewing. G. E. LETT. Jan. 15, 1960 [Oct. 17, 1958; Feb. 13, 1959], Nos. 33225/58 and 5090/59. Classes 43 and 112. A button comprises a neck formed before attachment to a garment from portions of thread which enters the button, the portions of thread being knotted and at least one length of thread extends from the neck for securing the button to the garment. A method of making the button 1 with a neck comprises passing the thread through the button so that two end portions 2, 3 protrude from the back of the button and a bight in the thread also protrudes from the back of the button forming in the bight a plurality of loops with the two end portions passing through them whereafter the two ends of the thread are pulled so that the loops are drawn close together adjacent the back of the button and are tightened on to the thread within them. The loops may be formed by passing one leg of the bight several times round the periphery of the button and then pulling the end portions 2, 3 of the thread to tighten the loops. The loops may also be formed by winding the thread on a latch hook needle which is pulled to draw the thread portions 2, 3 through the loops. The two end portions may be drawn through the material of the garment and secured by knotting the ends, or one end may be threaded through the holes of a backing button before knotting the thread between the backing button and the garment. Various methods of knotting the thread are described. Two buttons each with a neck may be secured to opposite sides of a garment by knotting the ends of each neck to the neck of the other button.
