[Also in Groups I and XXII] A structural element is formed from a single sheet of material, provided with at least four parallel rows of similar elongated apertures 2, Fig. 1, of equal length, the apertures of each row being similarly and equally inclined to the longitudinal axis of the row, said apertures permitting the deformation of the sheet whereby the unapertured portions 4, 5, Fig. 1, are displaced to constitute two layers 4, 5, Fig. 6, spaced by central sections 7 formed by the apertured portions. The alternate unapertured portions 4, 5, Fig. 6, meet edge-to-edge and the zig-zag lines of the joins therebetween may be welded together. In a modification, apertures 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 8, in successive rows are inclined on the opposite sense to the axis of the rows, and after the forming operation separate serrated-edge strips 18, 19, Fig. 10, are secured in coplanar relation between the alternate unapertured portions 14, 15 respectively. Longitudinal channelled ribs may be pressed along the centres of the unapertured portions.
