Abstract

Imperfections in steel surfaces may be filled by trowelling, or by squirting on to the surface by means of a hand-or air-operated gun, the composition specified below. The composition is cured at 120 DEG -180 DEG C. and surplus composition may be removed by filing and feather edging with a file or mechanical disc. The composition results from the mixture of a liquid component, produced by dissolving a BF3-amine addition product in a liquid ethoxyline resin, with an epoxidized vegetable oil, an organic polysulphide liquid polymer, and an inert filler. Compounds specified are:-(i) N-methyl benzylamine and N-methyl-n-butyl-amine, (ii) a bisphenol A/epichlorhydrin condensate which may contain butyl glycidyl ether, (iii) epoxidized soya bean oil, (iv) HS(RSS)6RSH where R is -C2H4O-CH2-O-C2H4-and (v titania, clay, kaolin and powdered steel.ALSO:A thermosetting adherent composition results from the mixture of a liquid component, produced by dissolving a BF3-amine p addition product in a liquid ethoxyline resin, with an epoxidized vegetable oil, an organic polysulphide liquid polymer, and an inert filler. Compounds specified are:-(i) N-methyl benzylamine and N-methyl-n-butylamine, (ii) a bisphenol A/epichlorhydrin condensate which may contain butyl glycidyl ether, (iii) epoxidized soya bean oil, (iv) HS(RSS)6RSH where R is -C2H4O-CH2-O-C2H4-, and (v) titania, clay, kaolin, and powdered steel. Use: For filling in imperfections on steel surfaces.
