Abstract

916,676. Fuel injection engines. LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN A.G., GES FUR. Nov. 20, 1959 [Nov. 28, 1958], No. 39474/59. Class 7(3) In an engine having fuel sucked into chamber 10 on the piston suction stroke and forced therefrom through passage 12 into a combustion chamber 5 on the compression stroke, the chamber 10 is formed so that the inertia of the fuel entering thereinto opposes flow of fuel through the connection 11 to the engine cylinder. In Figs. 5 and 6 the fuel supply duct 71 enters the chamber 10 tangentially so that the vortex produced therein prevents fuel flowing through the pipe 11. In addition the pipe 11 may project into chamber 10 or its end may may be curved as shown in dotted lines to further oppose the flow thereinto. In a modification the chamber 10 is formed as a spiral with a tangential fuel inlet. In Fig. 9 the fuel inlet 111 projects into the chamber 10 in a direction away from the outlet of pipe 11 leading to the cylinder. The fuel may be supplied from a float chamber 22, Fig. 2, with an adjustable valve seat 26 by which the level is varied. Specification 916,675 is referred to.
