Abstract

914,232. Valves. BLACK, A. July 24, 1961 [June 14, 1960; June 23, 1960], Nos. 20784/60 and 22039/60. Class 135. A valve for controlling the supply and exhaust of fluid to fluid motors comprises a rotatable control drum 4, Fig. 1, having a radial clearance with a casing 1. The casing carries several valves 9 ... 14 connected to the motors C1. . . C6, each valve comprising a ball 16 loaded by a spring 18 away from its seat 17 into contact with the drum 4. The drum is provided with depressions such as at 20 . . . 26 which on rotation of the drum allows the balls to be pressed into the depressions to allow flow through the valve, the drum at other times holding the ball on its seat. The depressions are arranged to provide a predetermined programme of operation of the motors. An inlet valve 7, which need not be spring-loaded, and an exhaust valve 8 may be provided. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, each valve is provided with a second ball or mushroom-shaped valve 36 which controls the exhaust from the motor port 42 when the ball valve 16 contacts the normal surface of the control drum 4. Such an arrangement dispenses with the exhaust valve 8 of Fig. 1. The control drum may be made of several discs and may be movable axially to alter the programme.
