Abstract

908,961. Electric clocks. MARTI, F., and BRAUNSCHWEIG, G. Jan. 7, 1959 [Feb. 1, 1958], No. 584/59. Class 139. An electric clock comprises a continuouslyrotating electric motor 31, Fig. 1, which repeatedly winds-up a spring 17, Fig. 3, attached to the shaft 10 of a lever 9 which impulses the balance 2 in its counter-clockwise swing. The winding train from the motor 31 includes a pinion 34 and a mutilated gear 21 mounted on a shaft 19 which also carries a three-toothed cam gear 23 which co-operates with three detents 13, 14, 15 carried by the lever. As the balance 2 swings counter-clockwise the roller pin 5 meets the detent spring 12 and rocks the lever 9 away from the post 38 and so removes a soft iron pin 16 from a permanent magnet 35. The spring 17 then rocks the lever 9 further counter-clockwise and the balance is impulsed by the fork limb 9a. The detent 14 then engages a tooth 24 of the cam gear 23 to rotate it sufficiently counter-clockwise to bring the mutilated gear 21 into mesh with the pinion 34 which rotates the gear 21 and the shaft 19 through 120 degrees. The shaft 19 drives the hands through a worm and worm-wheel 25, 26, Fig. 1. As the shaft 19 rotates another tooth 24 of the cam 23 meets the detent 13 to restore the lever 9 to its initial position so winding the spring 17. The soft iron pin 16 is again abutting the permanent magnet 35 and the cam 23 is locked by the detent 15. As the balance swings clockwise the impulse pin 5 merely flexes the detent spring 12.
