Abstract

906,934. Transfers; transferring designs. LETRASET Ltd. Jan. 21, 1959 [Jan. 21, 1958], No. 1999/58. Class 100 (2). In means for transferring designs, such as letters 12 or musical notes, from a primary carrier sheet 13 to a secondary carrier sheet 10, the sheet 13 is of paper, board, or plastic film, coated or treated with a paraffin &c. wax containing a silicone, and the letters &c. 12 are printed thereon with a filmforming ink. The sheet 10 is transparent, and may comprise cellulose acetate film coated on one side with a transparent flexible waxy adhesive 11, such as a compound of paraffin wax and polyisobutylene,which will remove the inked letters &c. 12 from the sheet 13 when the sheet 10 is pressed hard on the sheet 13 and rubbed in the vicinity of the letters. Guide lines 14 imprinted on the sheet 10 enable the particular letters to be selected and accurately transferred. When the design on the sheet 10 is complete, the coating 11 is neutralized by the application of a wax polish containing a silicone compound, or dusted with a powder; alternatively, the sheet 10 may be pressed on to a base support. In a modification, the sheet 10 is not coated, and the letters &c. 12 are themselves coated with the waxy adhesive. The film-forming ink may comprise carbon black, aluminium hydroxide, lead, cobalt, and linseed oil modified glycerylphthalate alkyd containing a fatty acid and phthalic anhydride.
