Abstract

899,918. Automatic speed control systems TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 18, 1960 [Nov. 18, 1959], No. 39810/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). Magnetic tape recording and reproducing apparatus for television signals comprises a tape having slanted parallel tracks recorded thereon by the video signals, and a magnetic head, other than the head for reproducing the video signals, travels across these tracks to provide signals for controlling the speed of the electric motor driving the tape. The head for controlling the speed is arranged so that its magnetic gap extends across each track, so producing a series of intermittent signals the repetition rate of which is dependent upon the speed of the tape. Thus, the speed of the tape is automatically controlled during reproduction so that the head for reproducing the video signals is brought into the proper positions with respect of the tracks. The speed-detecting head is made resonant at a predetermined low frequency which is determined by the ratio between the relative speed of the recording head with respect to the tape during recording and the desired speed of the tape during reproduction.
