A strap S2, Fig. I, is relcasably attached to a strap Sl of a parachute harness by a stud- and-socket device comprising parts I and II. Part I includes a stud portion B and a buckle portion A by which the part is releasably secured to the strap S1. The portion A comprises a slotted body 1 carrying a pin 2 pivotally mounted on a hinge 3 at one end of the slot. In order to fasten the body to the strap S1 a looped strap portion is passed through the slot, Fig. 4,-from which the pin has been swung clear-a distance L to allow subsequent swinging of the pin through the loop to engage the other end of the slot. The strap is then pulled to embrace the pin. The portion B comprises a bored cylindrical male member 14, Fig. 2, fixedly disposed in a bore 12 of a pin 17 pivotally mounted on the body I the boring of the member 14 being of three parts 20, 21, 22 in order to accommodate a locking rod 30 comprising portions 31, 32, 33 of different diameters. The rod portion 33 carries a press member 34 which is resiliently loaded by a spring 36 housed around the rod portion 32 in the bore part 20. Depression of the rod 30 by the member 34 allows retraction of four studs 25 of cylindrical and part spherical form disposed in radial slots 23 in the lower part of the member 14. Each stud has a head portion 28 disposed in. a groove 24 within the member 14 such that the stud is moved radially outwardly as the rod portion 31 moves upwardly during the spring-urged return stroke of the rod. Such return stroke effects the locking of the studs in their extended position. Part II of the device comprises a loop member attached to the strap S2 and incorporating the annulus 37 of sufficient clearance to pass over the male member 14 when the studs are retractable.
