Abstract

899,194. Fuel elements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 1, 1960 [June 3, 1959], No. 18962/59. Class 39(4). A nuclear fuel element comprising one or more fuel cartridges 1 housed within a sleeve 2 of non-fissile material and spaced from the inner surface thereof, is provided on the inner surface of the sleeve with recesses 8 wherein a lifting grab can engage. The sleeve may be of graphite which has been rendered impermeable in the manner described in Specification 873,607. The recesses may be lined with Magnox. Grooves 9 serve to locate supports 7 for helical swirlers 6. The Provisional Specification describes also Magnox blocks which project from the sleeve and under which the lifting grab can engage. Specification 791,011 also is referred to.
