Abstract
898,011. Chlorinating water. FISCHER & PORTER CO. Nov. 19, 1958 [June 3, 1958], No. 37279/58. Class 46. [Also in Group II] Apparatus for introducing gas, e.g. chlorine, into a stream of liquid, e.g. water, comprises, as shown, differential pressure regulating means having an inlet chamber 70, a discharge chamber 80, a diaphragm 71 separating the chambers, a restricted passage 84 connecting the chambers, and ejector 110 adapted to produce a vacuum consequent on the flow of a liquid therethrough, a passage 100, 118 connecting the ejector to the discharge chamber, a valve 96 controlling passage 100, 118 and, in turn, controlled by the diaphragm 71, gas supply means adapted to admit the gas to the inlet chamber after evacuation thereof, whereby gas is drawn by vacuum through the restricted passage to the discharge chamber, through passage 100, 118 to the ejector and thence into the liquid flow, and means adapted to connect the differential pressure regulating means to the atmosphere when the inlet chamber and dischargechamber thereof are under -the same gas pressure.. As shown in Fig. 4 the restricted passage 84 has a reduced portion 86 controlled by valve 88. Equalising of gas pressures in chambers 70, 80 causes a spring 90 to move diaphragm 71 upwardly with valve member 154 moving valve 150 off seat 148, with consequential connexion of chamber 70 and the atmosphere through cap 136, tube 138, cavity 126, passage 132 and tube 130. Preferably the gas supply means comprises a gas supply chamber and a vent chamber separated by a diaphragm, a passage connecting the vent chamber to the atmosphere, the supply chamber being connected to an inlet passage and a discharge passage, an inlet valve controlling the inlet passage, means operated by the diaphragm to open the inlet valve when the gas supply chamber is under a vacuum, the discharge passage being connected to the inlet chamber of the differential pressure regulating means. The apparatus as described may be used to chlorinate swimming bath water and is therefore preferably constructed from non-corrosive materials, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, phenolic or styrene resins or P.T.F.E.
