Class 137 [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXV] An apparatus for heating or air conditioning, or both, comprises a fan and fan motor mounted in a fan casing open at both ends, the fan casing being located in a duct, and the space between the duct and fan casing being sealed by an air-tight diaphragm which comprises a flexible material and transmits little or no sound and vibration from the fan casing to the surroundings. A fan for a heating or air conditioning system comprises a cylindrical fan casing 19 mounted on a sheet metal pedestal 26 resting on sponge rubber dampers 29. The casing 19 extends through an opening in a vertical sponge rubber sheet 14 which is stretched between rods 15 across the interior of a rectangular casing 11. The fan motor 20a is suspended within the casing 19 by means of two diametrically opposed springs 23, 23 attached to a clip 21 and three equally spaced springs 24, 25, 25 attached to a clip 22. Each spring may comprise three separate springs of different stiffness and therefore different resonant frequencies, connected in series. The sheet 14 may be replaced by a sheet of painted duck canvas stretched between two vertical wooden battens and provided at its central opening with tabs which surround the casing 19 and are attached thereto by a clip. In this embodiment, the casing 19 may be arranged with its axis vertical instead of horizontal. According to the Provisional Specification, the cylindrical fan casing may be insulated from a rigid sheet or stretched canvas sheet by means of a ring or rings of sponge rubber.
