Abstract

A fibrous plastic composition is produced by dispersing a finely divided compound of an organic acid such as stearic acid and a thermoplastic synthetic resin in an aqueous fibre pulp with a pH up to 7, adding an aqueous emulsion of a softener and/or a swelling agent, adjusting the pH value up to 6 with an addition of Al2(SO4)3 to form a fleece which is then dried and hot pressed. The synthetic resins specified are PVC, polystyrene, polyacrylnitrile and polyacrylates, and stabilizers such as the stearates of Pb, Sn, Na and Ca are added with the PVC. The resin-acid compound is added to the pulp as a powder or an aqueous dispersion and the softening and swelling agents such as tricresyl phosphate, dioctyl phthalate and perchlorethylene are added as an emulsion in a saponified stearic acid solution. Water insoluble dyes and insecticides may also be added to the pulp which consists of wood, paper, cellulose or asbestos.ALSO:A fibrous plastic composition is produced by dispersing a finely divided compound formed from a high molecular weight organic acid, such as stearic acid, and a thermoplastic hydrophobic polymerization synthetic resin, in an aqueous fibre pulp with a pH of up to 7, adding an aqueous emulsion of a softener and/or a swelling agent to the dispersion and then adjusting the pH to a value of up to 6 by the addition of a metal salt and forming a fleece which is then dried and hot pressed. The synthetic resin components specified are P.V.C. compounds, polystyrene, polyacrylnitrile, polyacrylates with the exception of elastomers and with the P.V.C. resins stabilizers such as the stearates of P6, Sn, Na or Cd may be added. The resin is finely divided and stearic acid is added, the mixture is dried and ground and then added to the fibrous pulp as such or as an aqueous dispersion. The fibres specified are wood, paper, cellulose or asbestos and the aqueous emulsion of the softener and/or swelling agent is formed by partially saponifying stearic acid and emulsifying a mixture of tricresyl phosphate or dioctyl phthalate and perchlorethylene in the stearic acid soap solution. The pH value of the pulp resin dispersion is adjusted by the addition of AL2(SO4)3 and the fleece is deposited on a conventional paper or fibreboard machine, dehydrated, dried and then pressed or rolled. Water insoluble dyes and insecticides may be added to the fibre pulp and laminate may be formed by pressing the formed fleece on to foils of thermoplastic or thermosetting resins.
