895,920. Sorting letters; lifts. STAHL, A., STAHL, O., STAHL, O., STAHL, B., and STAHL, W., [trading as STAHL MASCHINENFABRIK, R.]. Aug. 9, 1960, No. 27541/60. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (3). A lift basket 1 is divided into documentcarrying compartments 1a-1e each adapted to be aligned, by control gear (not shown), with an unloading ramp 4 at a predetermined one of floors 1 to 3 at which are also provided loading- ramps 3. In operation, the compartment, for example, 1c, to be unloaded, is run level with its unloading ramp 4 on the 3rd floor, a flap 5 is swung over, after the basket 1 has stopped, to allow the documents in compartment 1c to run over rollers 6 on to the ramp 4. Simultaneously the other compartments 1a, 1b, 1d, 1e are loaded by hand through ramps 3. If a large number of floors are to be served, the basket can be sub-divided in breadth as well as height.
