Abstract

894,242. Toothed gearing; friction gearing. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. July 5, 1960 [July 30, 1959], No. 23532/60. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] The rotor of a hub dymamo is driven by the hub sleeve through eccentric epicyclic gearing comprising an input rolling member driven by the hub sleeve, an output rotating member which drives the dynamo rotor (field member or armature) and which is concentric with the input member, and an eccentrically mounted rolling member which is mounted on the output member and engages with the input member, and is secured against rotation about its own axis. In one embodiment, hub sleeve 26 has a toothed ring 70 which may be engaged with toothed ring 68 to drive input rolling member 62 having internal toothing 60. Eccentrically mounted rolling member 54 having external toothing 58 engaging with toothing 60 is mounted on an eccentric cam 50 which drives the dynamo rotor 44. Output winding 38 may be rigidly attached to spindle 18 or may rotate with the hub sleeve (Fig. 7, not shown). Rolling member 54 is secured against rotation by a rectangular plate 126 (Fig. 8), with an aperture 128 loosely receiving spindle 18. Two opposite edges 134 of plate 126 are displaceably guided in a groove in member 54, and the remaining edges 130 are displaceably guided in a groove in member 88 (Fig. 1), rigidly attached to the spindle. In an alternative arrangement for preventing rotation the rectangular plate is replaced by a circular plate (Fig. 6, not shown), having four radial slots into which fit two pairs of pins, one pair rigid with member 54 and the other pair with member 88. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4) hub sleeve 26 drives a coupling member 106 which in turn may be engaged to drive input rolling member 98 having external toothing driving internal toothing on eccentrically mounted rolling member 92, which is mounted as before on eccentric cam 50. In both embodiments the gear train is coupled to the hub sleeve through a displaceable member 64 which is moved axially by a dog 80 extending radially out of the hub spindle 18, and a draw rod 78 attached to the dog and extending axially through the spindle so that the dynamo can be disengaged. In an alternative embodiment for disengaging the dynamo (Fig. 9, not shown), member 88 (Fig. 1), which was rigidly attached to the spindle and prevented rotation of rolling member 54 is replaced by an internally-toothed member which may be rigidly connected to the spindle by engagement with an axially movable externally-toothed member non-rotatable on the spindle. When eccentrically-mounted member 54 is free to rotate the transmission is non- operative. The engaging surfaces may in all cases be in frictional or toothed engagement. The rotor may be mounted on the hub sleeve instead of the spindle.
