Class 43 [Also in Group XXV] A belt length adjusting device comprises a pin 75 which extends across the belt 73 and is arranged to slide in the direction of the belt length within an aperture 72 in a frame 71, the belt 73 being looped around the pin so that an end 74 of the belt emerges from the aperture to underlie the adjacent part of the belt such that tension in the belt causes the pin to slide in the aperture so as to clamp the underlying portion against an edge of the aperture; a release lever 43 is pivotally mounted on the frame 71 and holds the underlying portion and the adjacent portion of the belt against the frame, the lever 43 being releasable to allow the belt to move away from the frame. The frame 71 forms part of a coupling member of a safety belt buckle, the coupling member engages a second coupling member of the buckle and disengages by movement of the release lever 43. The pin 75 is knurled and has slots 76, 77 therein for engaging the frame 71, the slots 77 being wide enough to allow the pin to be inserted into engagement with the frame at a wide portion of the aperture. The pin is thereafter prevented from return movement to the wide portion of the aperture by two pins 78 fixed in the frame. The latter has pivoted thereto at 80, 81 a member 79 consisting of opposite cam portions 82, 83 connected by a cross bar 84, rotation of the member 79 displacing the pin 75 away from the edge of the aperture against which the belt is clamped so that the belt may be adjusted. Alternatively, the pin 75 may be gripped by its end extensions for manual movement thereof. In a modification, Figs. 1 to 4 (not shown) in which there is no cam member 79 and the pin does not have end extensions, the belt can only be fully adjusted when the lever 43 is moved to disengage the coupling members.
