Abstract

884,231. Material flow-indicators. BAILEY METERS & CONTROLS Ltd. Feb. 18, 1958, No. 5306/58. Class 78 (1). To distinguish between the flow and non- flow of coal down a shoot 3, a probe 1 is partinserted into the shoot as shown, being carried at its nodes by plates 5, rubber rings 7, and steel sleeve 2, from casing 4 bolted at 4b to the shoot. The mechanical vibrations caused by coal impinging on the probe are transformed by piezo-electric unit 10 into electrical vibrations which are passed through an amplifying circuit such that, when the downflow ceases, due to blockage, a relay is operated to give a warning, or to vibrate the hopper whence the coal comes so as to restart the flow. A resonance circuit is included in the electrical system so that the vibrations of the probe are amplified more than extraneous vibrations; and chokes serve to cause a time delay in the working of the relay so that temporary stoppages cause no alarm to be given.
