Abstract

883,775. Vulcanizing presses for tyres. MACBETH, C. Aug. 5, 1960 [Aug. 17, 1959], No. 28001/59. Class 87(2). A press of the kind described in Specification 728,160 that vulcanizes two tyres simultaneously between superposed mould holders 11, 12, 13 has an improved operating mechanism. As shown in Fig. 1 to remove the tyres from the moulds, a crank 22 is rotated by a motor 26 causing the crank pin 23 to operate a toggle linkage 14, 15 (on each side of the press) thus initiating the opening movement of the holders. At the same time cam tracks 27, 28 impart vertical movements to pivots 17, 19 which through arms 16, 18 act as the pivots for the intermediate and top holders 12, 13, respectively. The pivot 19 is raised at twice the rate of movement of the pivot 17. During this movement, the intermediate holder is kept parallel with the lower holder by a cam roller 36 engaging a slot 35. Continued movement of the toggle fully opens the top holder allowing the top tyre mould to be removed, the motor 26 being stopped at this point by a contact breaker. The motor is then restarted and a cam 34 cuts on a roller 33 and linkage 32, 31 to fully open the intermediate holder. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the cam 34 is formed integrally with the link 24 instead of being mounted on the crank disc.
