Abstract

A largely austentic stainless steel has the following percentage composition, by weight:- .Cr.18 -21 .Mn.0 -17 .N.0,1- 0,5 .Ni.2 - 8 .Si.up to 1 .C.up to 0,12 .Fe.and incidental elements the balance, the relative amounts of Ni, Mn and N being such that the N is fully soluble in the steel in the liquid and solid phase. Preferred relative amounts of Ni, Mn and N in the alloy may be found from a three-dimensional graph accompanying the Specification.
