Abstract

Rubber latex is preserved by adding ammonia gas, concentrating, e.g. by centrifuging to 60-64% solids content, and adding a bactericidal agent, e.g. 0,05-0,15% of zinc mercaptobenzothiazolate or zinc mercaptoimidazolate, and a substance which prevents agglomeration of the rubber particles, e.g. 0,1% of an alkali metal or ammonium soap such as the sodium soap of coconut oil fatty acids. The latex after concentration preferably contains not more than 0,3% of ammonia. In order to prevent undue increase in viscosity of the preserved latex in the presence of zinc oxide, 0,05-0,1% of ethylene diaminotetra-acetic acid or the sodium salt thereof may be added.
