880,517. Colour television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 6, 1957 [Dec. 19, 1956; Feb. 27, 1957], No. 38627/56 and 6575/57. Addition to 871,367. Drawings to Specification. Class 40(3). A colour television receiver according to Claim 2 of the parent Specification is characterised in that the means for producing the indexing signal comprises means for causing the cathod-ray tube screen to emit secondary electrons in response to excitation by the beam more readily when the beam is directed at selected cycles (i.e. groups of three, red, green and blue) of the phosphor strips for substantially the entire cycle than when directed at other cycles of the phospor strips, the indexing signal being derived in response to secondary electron emission caused by the electron beam of said tube. A first embodiment of the invention, Figs. 1-3 (not shown), is in substance identical with that shown in Figs. 1-3 of the parent Specification. The indexing signal strips are deposited completely over every alternate group of three phosphors (as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the parent Specification) or over every third group of three phosphors. A second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), differs only in that a pilot oscillation of 30 Mc/s is applied to modulate the tube beam and the indexing signal circuit is arranged to respond to a side band resulting from the modulation of the pilot oscillation by the indexing strips.
