Abstract

877,933. Valves. AEROSOL RESEARCH CO. June 13, 1958, No. 19080/58. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] An aerosol valve comprises a gasket 9 sealing the outlet of a mounting cup 2 adapted to engage the upper edge of a container, a sealing cup 19, a spring 18 normally holding the cup in sealing engagement with the underside of the gasket 9 and a dispensing head 22 having an outlet orifice 32 communicating with a hollow stem 26 provided with a longitudinal metering groove 29 in its outer surface, the dispensing head being operable either by tilting it or depressing it to displace the sealing cup 19 from sealing engagement with the gasket 9 to permit material released by the breaking of the seal to flow along the metering groove and into and through the stem 26. More than one groove may be provided and a notch may be provided at the bottom of the groove or grooves to form a passage from the groove to the interior of the stem. The spring 18 is housed within a ribbed tubular shell 11 dimensioned to fit within the hub of the mounting cup 2. A syphon tube 16 leads from the shell 11 to the bottom of the container. The head 22 complete with stem 26 may be readily withdrawn from the gasket 9 for cleaning purposes. In another embodiment the orifice 32 in the head 23 is omitted so that the valve can be used for dispensing foam.
