Abstract
877,395. Electrolytic cells. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. March 10, 1960 [March 11, 1959], No. 8557/60. Class 41. A horizontal gas-tight electrolytic cell has a metal cathode 1 constituting at least one of the cell walls and a metal anode 2 extending across the cell and spaced from the cathode 1 by electrically insulating material 4 located between an upper edge of the cathode and a cell cover 5, the anode having a portion 3 extending outwardly from the cell. The electrodes may be of Pt, Ti, Ta, Nb, Zr or combinations thereof, or may be of Cu plated with one of the above metals. The anode may have slots or holes for gas escape and may be stiffened by ribs, projections, corrugations or protruberances. The insulating material 4 may be of rubber or synthetic resin and may be in one layer, in two layers, as shown, or in three. In a modification, the cathode 1 and anode 2 are trough-shaped.
