Abstract

874,690. Tools for harvesting sugar cane. JEIFETZ, H. Aug. 17, 1959, No. 28033/59. Class 30. [Also in Group XXIII] A tool for harvesting sugar cane comprises a cutting blade 8 projecting from a handle 1 formed by semicylindrical sheet metal members openable about a hinge 4 and each having a tapered cutter 2 with a cutting edge 3. The blade 8 is secured to one of two flanges 6 forming seatings for the gripping fingers which are protected by a two-part flange 10. The cutters 2 are of different curvatures so that the lateral edges can overlap to accommodate stems of different sizes, and may be riveted to the handle for replacement. Finger loops 11 are provided.
