Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula X-Alkylene1-Z-SO2-NH-CO-NH. Alkylene2-Y, wherein X is a halogen atom, Z is a 1:4-phenylene or 1:4-cyclohexylene radical, Y is a halogen or hydrogen atom, Alkylene1 and Z together containing up to 8 carbon atoms and Alkylene2 containing 3-8 carbon atoms; more especially the N1-(4-halomethylphenyl)-sulphonyl-and N1-(4-halomethylcyclohexyl)-sulphonyl-, N2-alkyl ureas. The compounds are prepared by known methods for the preparation of sulphonyl ureas, for example by reacting a sulphonamide X-Alkylene1-Z-SO2-NH2 with an isocyanate Y-Alkylene2-NCO, in the presence of an alkali p metal hydroxide as a condensing agent and in a ketone solvent such as acetone. Preferred products are N1-p-chloromethylphenylsulphonyl-N2-propyl-and N-butyl urea and N1-p-chloromethylcyclo-hexylsulphonyl-N2-butyl urea.
