Abstract
872,271. Rolling. MOILLER & NEUMAN G.m.b.H. Feb. 16, 1959 [March 15, 1958], No. 5266/59. Class 83 (4). In a locking device for axially-retaining rolls, e.g. a driven roll 5 of a four-roll rolling mill, a stop 11 for preventing axial movement of laterally-insertable chocks 3, 4 and locking means for the chocks which is operative perpendicular to the roll axis are both located on the side of the frame opposite to the withdrawal side for the rolls, the arrangement being such that the stop 11 is brought out of operation when a locking element 8 is operative. The locking element 8 and the stop 11 are mounted on an arm 7, 12 attached to a spindle 6 and pivoted about the spindle by rotation of a threaded adjusting spindle 15 engaging in a bored-pin 13 attached to the extension 12 of the arm. The angular travel of the pivoted arm is limited by an adjustable stop 20 and a nut 19 on the spindle 15. Two such locking arms are provided, the locking elements 8 engaging in vertical lined grooves 9 of the chock 4, the end-stops 11 then being out of contact with the surface 4a. The chock 3 on the withdrawal side for the roll 5, the roll being driven on the other side, is free to move away axially should the roll break to prevent damage to the roll drive.
