872,103. Programmed electric control systems; recording positions. SOC. GENEVOISE D'INSTRUMENTS DE PHYSIQUE. Nov. 12, 1957 [Sept. 13, 1957], No. 35264/57. Addition to 864,049. Class 38 (6). The system of the parent Specification is modified in that axially displaceable write and read heads are provided for the magnetic drum store so that single coarse and fine write heads only are required for recording a plurality of stop positions. Fig. 2 shows the coarse write and read heads TE1, TL1 and the fine write and read heads te1, tl1 mounted diametrically in a carrier 147 relative to the magnetic drum store 37. The carrier 147 is movable parallel to the drum axis along guides 145 by a hand wheel 140 acting through a pinion 138 and rack 137. For each stop position, the carrier is moved to a corresponding axial position relative to the drum as indicated by a pointer 141, rotatable with the hand wheel, on a dial 142. These carrier movements may be effected automatically.
