Abstract

871,008. Forging. SALVI, C. March 26, 1959, No. 10652/59. Class 83 (4). A double-blow upsetting press, particularly for heading bolts and rivets, has an oscillatable tool holder 8, for a pair of alternately acting upsetting tools 9, 10 mounted on a rocking shaft 7 extending through the main carriage 6 and actuated through a rocker arm 14 and first transverse slide 17 on the carriage, by a second transverse slide 19 on the press frame 40, which has a pin and slot connection 18, 20 with the first slide. The slide 19 is reciprocated transversely by a rocking lever 21 on a vertical shaft 22 driven through a spring-biased yieldable connection 36, Fig. 3 (not shown), lever 32, adjustable link 42, push rod 31, cam 28 and co-operating followers 29, 30, and gearing 28, 25 from the main press crank shaft 1. The yieldable connection permits full oscillation of the tool holder 8 between adjustable stops 37, 38; spring-loaded shock absorbers 46 and 47 are also provided. The carriage 6 is driven from the crank shaft 1 through connecting rod 3 and toggle linkage 4. Wire stock 12, Fig. 2, is fed intermittently and severed into lengths 13 by a reciprocating knife 11 which transfers them to the die.
