Abstract
869,579. Electric air heaters. HOWES, K. June 30, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 20991/58. Class 39(3). An electric air heater has a casing which contains an impeller 10 driven by motor 8 mounted coaxially with the casing, the domed parts 1 and 2 of which are so mounted together as to have an annular air outlet 4, between which and the impeller periphery is mounted a heating element 11, 13. Incoming air enters the device at 5 through grille 6 and is expelled from the impeller chamber in a coplanar radial direction over the heating elements through gap 4. In one form the heater comprises a number of coils of wire supported on eight insulating pedestal disposed coaxial with and internally of the annular gap. In another form the element comprises a length of wire wound round an annular insulating core. A device utilizing such an element comprises in addition to the features of the embodiment described above, an air outlet shaft which extends coaxially beneath the impeller and has fluted outlets disposed around its periphery at the end remote from the impeller: According to the Provisional Specification the casing may be corrugated and the incoming air 'may enter the device in such a manner as to pass over the motor to cool it. The vanes of the impeller may have deflectors secured thereto to speed the radial outflow of air over the heating elements.
