Abstract

868,203. Tubular heat exchangers. SVENSKA MASKINVERKEN A. B. Nov. 11, 1957 [Nov. 12, 1956], No. 35090/57. Class 64(3) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a heat exchanger in which a fluid such as oil is heated or cooled in flowing over externally finned tubular elements extending through a casing, passage of all the oil or other fluid over the elements is ensured by the provision of so-called filler members which may comprise solid rods or tubes closed at one or both ends and which extend through the interspaces between adjacent elements, between certain elements and the casing wall or between the fins of an individual element, and at least some of the filler members consist of or are adapted to be temporarily replaced by cleaning lances from which steam or other cleaning fluid is ejected over the tubes as necessary. Fig. 2 shows a typical cross-section through such a heat exchanger the tubular elements 11, 16 shown therein each consisting of a pair of concentric tubes the outer tubes being provided with pin-fins shaped as shown. Heating or cooling fluid enters the element by way of the inner tube and flows from the element through the annular space between the tubes. Filler members 20 are provided between the radially extending fins of the central tube 16 and other filler members 21, 22 are provided as shown in the interspaces between neighbouring tubes 11 and the casing 13. In this form the filler members 21 are adapted to be replaced by cleaning lances when required. An application of the invention to a heat exchanger made in accordance with Specification 737,990 is described.
