Abstract

The invention comprises quaternary ammonium compounds of the formula: <FORM:0866408/IV (b)/1> wherein R is hydrogen or a C12-18 aliphatic acyl radical, at least one R being said aliphatic acyl, M is a C1-4 monovalent hydrocarbon radical attached to a nitrogen atom to complete a quaternary ammonium group, A is C2-6 alkylene, n is 2, 3 or 4, p is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, y is from 1 to (p+2)- and X is an anion forming with M an alkyl halide or other alkyl ester such as a dialkyl sulphate or alkylarylsulphonate, but excluding those compounds claimed in the parent Specification. The compounds are obtained by fully N-hydroxyalkylating a polyamine NH2(ANH)pANH2 with a C2-4 alkylene oxide or mixture thereof, treating the product with an alkyl ester of a C12-18 aliphatic acid to introduce the acyl radicals R by ester interchange and quaternating with a compound MX.ALSO:Softness and antistatic properties are imparted to cellulose acetate, nylon and vinyl resin textile materials by applying to them aqueous dispersions of polyhydroxypolyamine esters of the formula:- <FORM:0866408/IV(c)/1> wherein R is hydrogen or a C12-18 aliphatic acyl radical, at least one R being said aliphatic acyl, M is a C1-4 monovalent hydrocarbon radical attached to a nitrogen atom to complete a quaternary ammonium group, A is C2-6 alkylene, n is 2, 3 or 4, p is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, y is from 1 to (p+2) and X is an anion forming with M an alkyl halide or other alkyl ester, but excluding those compounds claimed in the parent Specification.
