Abstract

A method of removing an odorous gas or vapour from a normally odourless gas, e.g. air, comprises contacting the gas mixture with basic zirconium sulphate, e.g. by causing the gas may be caused to flow through or over a mass of the zirconium sulphate. In an example air is deodorized by effecting the passage thereof through a canister packed with granular basic zirconium sulphate. The canister may be formed with apertured end walls and have a means connected with one end for drawing air into the canister through the opposite end and then discharging the air after it passes through the canister into the atmosphere. By this means, circulation of the air of a room or air from any other source which may contain objectionable odours can be readily purified. Specified odorous gases and vapours are acetic acid, benzene, butyl acetate, butyraldehydes, butyric acid, caproic acid, diethylamine, lactic acid, pyridine and sulphur dioxide, and in addition several natural products such as onion juice.ALSO:A method of deodorizing a normally odourless gas, e.g. air, comprises contacting the gas with basic zirconium sulphate, e.g. by causing the gas to flow through or over a mass of the zirconium sulphate. In an example, air is deodorized by effecting the passage thereof through a canister packed with granular basic zirconium sulphate. The canister may be formed with apertured end walls and have a means connected with one end for drawing air into the canister through the opposite end and then discharging the air after it passes through the canister into the atmosphere.
