Abstract
862,774. Mounting and driving bobbins and spindles in speed-frames. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. Aug. 14, 1959 [Aug. 18, 1958], No. 26461/58. Class 120(2) In a bobbin and flyer spindle mounting and driving arrangement, which reduces spindle vibration in, and reduces the height of, speed frames producing long packages, each bobbin 26, Fig. 1, is rotated through the medium of a tube 13 supported near its lower end in spaced bearings 15, 14, the flyer-spindle 19 passing through the tube and being supported at its lower end in a footstep 20 and at its upper end in a bearing 131 carried by the tube, and the bobbin is driven by a member 27 rotatably mounted on a traverse-rail 28 and in splined driving connection with the tube; moreover, there are separate shafts 10, 11 for driving the tubes and spindles, mounted close together. The frame is made up of a number of oil-tight casings 18 each carrying say two staggered groups of six spindles with their bearings, gears and driving shafts; each casing carries housings 16, 17 for the tubebearings 14, 15, plugs constituting the footsteps 20 and an oil drain-plug 36. The shafts in each casing are each constituted by three parts coupled as at 34, Fig. 2, with bearings 33 on either side of each coupling, each set of bearings 33 being carried by a member 32 in oil-tight connection with casing 18; the shafts pass to the next casing through bearing and sealing members 35. The driving-connexion between each tube and its associated bobbin is a flanged member 27 having lugs 271 engaging recesses in the bobbin and a pin 272 co-operating with a longitudinal key-way on the tube, the driving connexion being thus maintained whatever the position of the traverserail 28. A nylon bushing 281 is provided.
