Abstract

A silica-free magnetic flux for arc welding consists, by weight, of 12-40% rutile, 1-10% welding mineral fluoride, 1-10% silicon (elemental or as a ferro-alloy or as silico-manganese) or a substitute deoxidizer such as aluminium, ferro-aluminium, ferro-titanium or ferro-zirconium, 2-10% manganese (elemental or as a ferro-alloy or as silico-manganese), 0-25% manganese dioxide and/or manganese monoxide, 0-10% magnesium oxide, 0-30% alumina, 15-40% iron and/or magnetite, and a binder such as sodium silicate, sodium aluminate or potassium aluminate. The welding mineral fluoride may be calcium fluoride or cryolite.
