Abstract

854,713. Electric switches. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Nov. 27, 1958 [Dec. 4, 1957], No. 38266/58. Class 38(5). An electric switch has a contact member for each pole, each member being secured for common actuation on one insulated cross-bar, at least two toggle mechanisms being used and located between adjacent contact members, the toggle mechanisms being connected by a tie-bar for simultaneous actuation. The toggle mechanisms are thus mechanically in parallel. The operating handle is on the switch case which is mechanically locked when the handle is in the " on " position. The 3-pole switch has contact members 31 fixed to a cross-bar 39 and two toggle mechanisms 24, each secured to a common tie-bar 40 and actuated by a projecting part 64 which engages the switch operating mechanism. This is a cam device in which the semi-rotary motion of the handle causes rectilinear displacement of a plate 82 in a slot of which the part 64 is housed. An interlock member 66 engages the hook 88 to prevent the switch case being opened until the switch is " off." Fuse holders 26, 27 are provided.
