Abstract

A composition which cross-links on heating comprises a thermoplastic polyolefin, an organic peroxide and a colloidally subdivided neutral or alkaline filler which when compounded alone with the polyolefin does not cause bubbling on heating to 500 DEG F. The polyolefin may be derived from ethylene, propylene, n-butylene, pentylene and mixtures thereof, and the peroxide may be a hydroperoxide, dicumyl or cumyl t-butyl peroxide or t-butyl perbenzoate. Specified fillers are furnace type, thermal type and calcined furnace type carbon blacks of particular particle sizes and metal oxides of particle size between 20 and 1,000 millimicrons. Antioxidants, softeners, plasticizers, solvents and dyes may also be present and moulded articles may be obtained. Specification 843,617 is referred to.
